The Polls
Liberals retain lead in polling average ahead of final week
- Liberals 43.6% / Conservatives 38.0% / NDP 8.3% / BQ 5.4% / Green 2.3% / PPC 1.7%
It will take a few days before we see any impact from the debates show up in the polls, but as advance voting takes place this weekend, the Liberals hold a national lead that is large enough to make them the favourites to win the most seats — and probably a majority government. The Conservatives are holding steady with more support than they’ve had in the last three elections, but it remains not enough, as the Liberals are retaining the Bloc Québécois and NDP vote they have picked up since the beginning of the campaign. Mark Carney’s plan for Canada includes $130 Billion in new spending
- Entitled “Unite, Secure, Protect, Build”– the platform also commits more than $18 billion of spending on national defence, putting Canada on track to “exceed our NATO target by the year 2030,” according to policy experts who briefed reporters.
Part of those expenditures include new submarines and additional icebreakers for the Royal Canadian Navy, and the purchase of “Canadian-made airborne early warning and control aircraft.”
The billions in new spending over the next four years to support promises outlined in the platform would see the liberals increase Canada’s deficit from a baseline outlined by Canada’s Parliamentary Budget Officer. (CTV)

Rebel News owner Ezra Levant was ‘mentor’ to Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre
- Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has documented historic ties to Rebel News owner Ezra Levant, the media personality at the epicentre of a controversy that has engulfed Canada’s Leaders’ Debates Commission. After facing criticism for allowing right-wing media activists to dominate the post-French debate press conference, the commission cancelled Thursday’s post-debate question-and-answer session citing undefined security concerns.
