The Numbers

CBC Poll Tracker » Liberals remain on track for majority win

  • Liberals 43.5% / Conservatives 37.4% / NDP 8.4% / BQ 5.5% / Green 2.4% / PPC 2.0%

The gap between the Liberals and Conservatives continues to grow as the Liberals gain more support from the NDP and Bloc Québécois. With growing leads in Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Canada and British Columbia, the Liberals would win a big majority government if an election were held today, with all other parties likely to suffer seat losses. (CBC Poll Tracker – April 2, 2025)

» The Conservatives are stuck where it matters most. The trackers this morning show no indication of a developing trend, with Liaison, Nanos and Mainstreet putting the Liberals between 43% and 45%, the Conservatives between 37% and 40% and the NDP between 6% and 9%. The other polls published, from Pallas Data and Léger, again show much the same numbers as we’ve seen from other pollsters. (Éric Grenier – The Writ)

» Mark Carney’s Liberals are continuing to hold onto their 8 point lead over the Conservatives on Day 11 of the federal election campaign. A three-day rolling sample by Nanos Research ending April 1 has Mark Carney’s Liberals at 45%, leading Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, who are at 37%. The New Democratic Party has dropped to 9%, followed by the Bloc Quebecois at 5%, Green Party of Canada at 2% and the People’s Party of Canada 1%.  (CTV)

On The Campaign Trail

» Canada will fight with “purpose and force” against the trade war unleashed by Trump, Prime Minister Mark Carney said, warning that tariffs will harm the global economy and affect millions of Canadians and Americans.
Even though the Trump excluded Canada from new “reciprocal tariffs” that he imposed on global trading partners, he kept steep import levies on Canadian steel, aluminum, and vehicles, and auto parts. Mr. Carney, the Liberal Leader, paused his campaign in the federal election to hold meetings on tariffs and will talk to provincial and territorial premiers Thursday. He made only a brief statement Wednesday after he entered a cabinet meeting on Canada-U.S. relations, promising retaliatory countermeasures, but he did not say what they would entail. (Globe and Mail // Video » Global News / CBC)

» Conservatives dropped Real estate agent Lourence Singh, their candidate in New Westminster—Burnaby—Maillardville. Singh is the third candidate the Tories dropped yesterday, following the ouster of Mark McKenzie in Windsor, Ontario and Stefan Marquis in Montreal earlier in the day. The Conservatives did not share the reason for dropping Singh. (CBC / CTV / TVA)
